Issa Sets Up New Protections for Union Whistleblowers

Chairman of the House Oversight Committee Darrell Issa is making an effort to give workers the opportunity to come forward about being forced into joining a labor union and paying dues that go to causes they may not support.

Americans have a right to personal freedom. No one should tell us what to think or believe. But look around: there are real political and economic barriers to personal freedom. Hardworking Americans are being forced to give up their income to pay for partisan politics they don't support. That's not right, and it's not American.

Workers should decide how their hard-earned money is spent. They should know how their dues are spent. That's something everyone should agree on. Because personal freedom isn't partisan: it's American.

We are committed to working with everyone - workers, union leaders and each other - to restore workplace freedom and fairness for all Americans.

And, giving workers the right to choose whether they want or don't want to simply be part of a labor union, shouldn't be a partisan issue:

This is the United States. Every American worker should have the freedom to choose whether or not to be politically active. Every American worker should have the freedom to choose whether or not to donate to their union's political agenda. And every American worker has a right to know how their dues are spent. Because forced political contributions and secret special interest spending have a corrupting effect on our democracy. We are committed to delivering workplace freedom and fairness for all Americans - Republicans, Democrats, everyone.
