GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney has friends in high places, proving it yesterday by coming away from a New York City fundraising blitz with at least $2 million more for his campaign.
Mitt Romney swept through Manhattan today for a four-event fundraising blitz, beginning with a mega-breakfast at Cipriani and wrapping up with a Paul Singer-hosted Union League fundraiser that raked in more than $1.2 million, one of the biggest fundraisers on the GOP side of the cycle.
The entire day was expected to bring in well over $2 million for Romney's coffers, part of a major fundraising blitz that will bring in over $3.5 million for the week, including a Chris Christie-hosted event on Monday night in New Jersey.
The money came pouring in for Romney despite the DNC's efforts to paint him as "out of touch" to locals. after his $10,000 bet comment to Rick Perry during a debate last weekend in Iowa.
Determined not to let any opportunity to mock Mitt Romney go to waste, Democrats will take to the skies on Wednesday with a 175-foot banner at the same time Romney donors will be arriving at New York fundraisers for his presidential bid.
The Democratic National Committee has hired an airplane to circle above the Hudson River along Manhattan's west side for three hours during lunch, carrying a sign reading, "Bet you 10k Romney’s out of touch." The banner includes a link to a DNC website serving as a hub for attacks portraying Romney as an elitist.
Apparently the DNC missed the $38,500 a plate dinner fundraiser their candidate Barack Obama held last night at the St. Regis Hotel in Washington D.C. Romney could bet Perry nearly four times with that amount of cash rolling in to his bank account.
This is the second small fundraiser held in Washington D.C. this month closed to the press. On December 7th, President Obama held a fundraiser at the Jefferson hotel that was closed to the press. About 20 people attended, and tickets cost $35,800 a person.
