P.E.T.A.'s Next Target: Super Mario

P.E.T.A.'s Next Target: Super Mario

P.E.T.A. people eating tasty animals, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, has a new villain: Super Mario. Why you ask? Because PETA believes the cartoon character is promoting the wearing of real fur in a new video game.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals recently began calling the new Super Mario 3D Land for the Nintendo 3DS insensitive to the hunting and killing of real-life tanuki raccoon dogs for fur. I guess PETA never had an issue with everyone's favorite plumber stomping on turtles and using their shells as weapons all these years.

From P.E.T.A.:

When on a mission to rescue the princess, Mario has been known to use any means necessary to defeat his enemy—even wearing the skin of a raccoon dog to give him special powers.

Tanooki may be just a "suit" in Mario games, but in real life, tanuki are raccoon dogs who are skinned alive for their fur. By wearing Tanooki, Mario is sending the message that it's OK to wear fur. Play Super Tanooki Skin 2D and help Tanooki reclaim his fur!

The folks at P.E.T.A. have also created a graphic video game of their own. Play at your own risk. P.E.T.A. should leave Mario and Nintendo alone, there's a reason why humans are at the top of the food chain.
