Debate schedule

Sept. 26 at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York – The debate will be divided into six time segments of 15 minutes each. Topics will be selected by moderators and announced at least one week before the debate. Each candidate will be asked a question and then given two minutes to respond then an opportunity to reply to each other.

Oct. 9 at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri – This debate will take the form a town hall meeting. Half of the questions will be posed by citizen participants and the other half will come from the moderators. The candidates will have two minutes to respond and then an additional minute from the moderator for more discussion. The town meeting participants will be uncommitted voters selected by the Gallup Organization.

Oct. 19 at University of Nevada-Las Vegas – This debate will return to the format of the first one, with a moderator posing questions followed by answers and rebuttals.

"The CPD has a simple mission, to ensure that presidential debates help the public learn about the positions of the leading candidates for president and vice president," CPD Co-Chairs Frank J. Fahrenkopf, Jr. and Michael D. McCurry said. "These formats will allow an in-depth exploration of the major topics in this year's election."
