We are roughly 40 days away from the first presidential debate of the 2016 cycle, set to take place in Hempstead, New York on September 26th.
Each of the three scheduled debates will be run from 9-10:30 p.m. Eastern Time without commercial breaks. Moderators have not been announced at this time.
Debate schedule
Sept. 26 at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York – The debate will be divided into six time segments of 15 minutes each. Topics will be selected by moderators and announced at least one week before the debate. Each candidate will be asked a question and then given two minutes to respond then an opportunity to reply to each other.
Oct. 9 at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri – This debate will take the form a town hall meeting. Half of the questions will be posed by citizen participants and the other half will come from the moderators. The candidates will have two minutes to respond and then an additional minute from the moderator for more discussion. The town meeting participants will be uncommitted voters selected by the Gallup Organization.
Oct. 19 at University of Nevada-Las Vegas – This debate will return to the format of the first one, with a moderator posing questions followed by answers and rebuttals.
The vice presidential debate will be held Oct. 4 at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia.
