Downtown El Paso's Landscape Changes as Migrant Camp Continues to Grow

El PASO, Texas — Processed and released migrants continue to pour into the historic downtown area, with most not having the money to buy a plane or bus ticket to their ultimate destination, some as close as Dallas with others as far as New York City.

Sickness is rampant in the camp, the sound of coughing and sneezing is constant, along with seeing people blowing giant balls of snot with their hands because they do not have tissues or napkins. Highlighting the lack of facilities for hygiene, people have resorted to bringing in buckets of water inside the heavily-used porta-potties and wash themselves standing up.

The city has installed vehicle barriers on the main street of the migrant camp to ensure people's safety since cars were passing by the constant foot traffic. El Paso police officers continue to patrol the sprawling site, always wearing masks to avoid getting sick.

"I never thought I would see this in El Paso," one officer remarked to me.

One woman from Venezuela was wearing a Trump 2020 hat. I asked her if she liked Donald Trump. She replied she was only wearing it because needed something to block out the sun.

As if it was a crossover for current events, water being given to the migrants Saturday evening were the Anheuser-Busch cans the company makes for emergency situations.

All of this is taking place before Title 42 will officially no longer be enforced on May 11. It is expected even more illegal immigrants will cross at different parts all over the U.S.-Mexico border to take advantage of the public health order no longer being in place.
