Former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton weighed in on the House of Representatives debating and voting on the two articles of impeachment against President Trump on Wednesday.

"The president abused his powers to cheat in the next election and rob us of that right. Then he obstructed Congress to cover it up. Impeachment is the only remedy," Clinton tweeted, adding "#DefendOurDemocracy."

Clinton also highlighted an effort from historians who are signing onto a letter that expresses their support for impeachment. So far, over 1,500 historians have signed the letter.

"President Trump’s numerous and flagrant abuses of power are precisely what the Framers had in mind as grounds for impeaching and removing a president," the letter states."Among those most hurtful to the Constitution have been his attempts to coerce the country of Ukraine, under attack from Russia, an adversary power to the United States, by withholding essential military assistance in exchange for the fabrication and legitimization of false information in order to advance his own re-election."

The two articles of impeachment are expected to pass the House. The Senate trial on the articles will take place in January.
