District Of Columbia Gets A New Mayor

I was rooting for sitting Mayor Adrian Fenty over District of Columbia Council Chairman Vincent Gray in the Democratic primary for mayor, but Fenty conceded to Gray last night in a disappointing end to a dirty, dirty race. The Democratic primary is essentially the general election in this town; there is no real contest between Democrats and Republicans. I'm pretty much the only conservative I know who actually lives inside the city borders.

I was primarily interested in Fenty's support for

school chancellor Michelle Rhee, who was something like an army drill sergeant when it came to fixing the Capitol's public school system. Unfortunately, both Fenty and Rhee ostracized a good number of residents with their blustery attitudes and take-no-prisoners governing style. I can't help but think that's what's required in the animal house that is this city, but it seems that most voters didn't agree.
