Unemployment Steady At 9.7%

Everyone was expecting slightly improved rates, and blames the steady rate on the weather. Record snowfall and the resulting citywide shut-downs apparently discourage employers from hiring. I guess if you can't actually get to the place you're interviewing, you're going to have trouble getting the job.

Net jobs -- a different indicator than the unemployment rate -- were down 36,000, but had been expected to go down 50,000.

So -- still a crummy economy, but mild indications of respite.
