Cabinet Watch: Giuliani Possible for Director of National Intelligence

There is heavy speculation that Rudy Giuliani could be the next Director of National Intelligence.

On the onset of Trump’s transition phase since becoming the president-elect, former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani was assumed to land a top post in the White House. He was a loyal supporter of the billionaire’s candidacy and a strong surrogate on the media circuits. Unfortunately for him, he seems to have been passed down for a few high-profile positions so far. Giuliani didn’t land the attorney general gig (Sen. Jeff Sessions scored that nomination), and there are strong indications that he will be passed over for secretary of state to Mitt Romney.

However, there are many positions left to be filled and one prime job appears to be in play for the former mayor. Speaking on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, senior adviser Kellyanne Conway said Giuliani could “possibly” be the next director of the DNI when pointedly asked by the hosts.

Giuliani spoke to reporters after emerging from a meeting with the president-elect in Trump Tower Tuesday morning. He was not apt for giving details.

"I’m not going to discuss what I’m interested in or what the president elect is thinking and mulling over. That’s not fair. That’s not the right way to do it, and this all has to be done very privately," the former mayor said.

In recent past, Guiliani had been very vocal regarding jobs he felt he would be great for. In one public statement, he claimed “probably nobody that knows the Justice Department better than me” – a reference to the role of attorney general. However, he has now kept more private his wishes inside the incoming Trump Administration.
