Obamacare Bringing Trump and Ryan Together

Obamacare Bringing Trump and Ryan Together

Agreement on repealing and replacing Obamacare is bringing the Speaker of the House and GOP presidential nominee together during the final stretch of the election.

On Tuesday, Ryan spoke on “Fox & Friends” and enthusiastically stressed about the need for a unified Republican government in Congress and the White House to enact conservative legislation. He said he had voted early for Donald Trump and all other GOP candidates on the ballot.

The next day, Ryan spoke to radio host Hugh Hewitt on the need for Trump to win so Republicans can once and for all repeal the Affordable Care Act. In fact, he was quite animated over Trump’s call for a special session to repeal Obamacare.

“Imagine if we had a Republican president,” Ryan told radio host Hugh Hewitt. “This is what Donald Trump is talking about — a special session. We’ve already proven this year with a Republican House and a Republican Senate we can have that special session, and we can repeal, and we can replace ObamaCare.”

Reconciliation is the process Ryan argued could be used to implement its repeal. The procedure would allow the measure to pass by just a simple majority instead of a 60-vote threshold in the Senate. This proposed strategy would require a Republican House and White House to be in power.

It appears the premium increases in Obamacare have given the often-warring Republican leaders common cause. Both have assailed the controversial healthcare set-up as prices have continually increased and healthcare providers are leaving the government-run exchange in droves.

The two men have their own plans for a health care overhaul, but both plans include less regulation of what regulation has to cover and the mandate to purchase coverage.
