Oh Boy: Obama Signed Off on Changes That Led to Platform Debacle

In case you'd forgotten, delegates at the DNC fiercely defended their radical platform yesterday, strenuously opposing last-minute attempts to restore the word "God" and an official recognition of Jerusalem to the document.  In three voice votes, dissenting shouts of "no!" grew stronger, culminating in boos and anger as the changes were finalized, over the will of at least half of those present.  It was during this unscripted, unanticipated series of events that the world witnessed unambiguous evidence of a strong anti-faith, anti-Israel undercurrent that has infected an alarmingly substantial sub-section of the Democrat Party.  Appalling:

As I wrote yesterday evening, the Obama campaign entered "damage control mode," leaking to the press that Obama himself intervened to insist these changes be made.  This didn't quite add up because his own White House has repeatedly refused to correctly and publicly identify the capital of Israel as a matter of policy.  Politico now reports that the president actually saw the original platform language in question before it was adopted, but made zero effort to alter it:

Things got so bad that President Barack Obama was forced to personally intervene, ordering language mentioning God and naming Jerusalem as the rightful capital of Israel be added. Obama had seen the language prior to the convention, a campaign source said, but did not seek to change it until after Republicans jumped on the omissions of God and Jerusalem late Wednesday. And even then, it had to be forced through a convention hall full of delegates who nearly shouted down the change.

In other words, Obama was entirely comfortable with the controversial exclusions -- until people actually noticed, at which point his overwhelming political self-preservation instincts took over.  Meanwhile, DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz went on national television and claimed that the events in the video embedded above didn't really happen.  I keep thinking I've seen it all from this congenital liar, but then she manages to one-up herself.  Watch as she tells CNN that (a) the whole episode was merely prompted by a minor oversight, (b) there was no "discord" on the floor whatsoever, and (c) the final vote was "absolutely" two-thirds in favor of the amendments.  An anti-truth trifecta:

When they kick it back upstairs to the panel, an incredulous Anderson Cooper says DWS' performance was something out of "an alternate universe."  One of the most threadbare talking points Democrats incessantly invoke is the notion that Republicans have become extremely extreme extremists.  Which party's platform favors taxpayer-subsidized, third-term abortions -- and which party's rank-and-file members booed God and Jerusalem, knowing they were on television?
