Jon Stewart Apologizes For Calling Truman A 'War Criminal'

Stewart was getting schooled on the topic of "torture" by The Foundation for Defense of Democracies President Cliff May on Wednesday night's show [see second video below]. In typical "Daily Show" fashion Stewart resorted to his two tried-and-true methods of debating: swing for the fences or tell a joke when your opponent is making more sense so the audience laughs and drowns out the truth.

In the midst of losing the torture debate to May, Stewart swung for the fences when he said that President Harry Truman is a "war criminal" for dropping a nuclear bomb on Hiroshima, Japan in WWII. No cheers from his flute followers. No laughs. He stepped way out of bounds and he knew it.
