The new head of the Democratic National Committee--Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz--has been the gift that keeps benefiting Republicans, thanks to her inflammatory rhetoric. How will it impact 2012?

In late October 2010, Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz traveled to a neighboring South Florida congressional district and led a demonstration outside the Deerfield Beach, Fla., campaign headquarters of Republican Allen West, who was running against Democratic incumbent Rep. Ron Klein.

"It's no secret that Ron's opponent Allen West is a self-described right-wing extremist," Wasserman Schultz pronounced at the demonstration. "In fact, he wears his extreme disrespect as a badge of honor. He thinks it's OK to objectify and denigrate women. He thinks it's OK to take away our reproductive freedom."

She attached West for contributing articles to a Miami biker magazine that she called sexist.

"Tea party extremists have some real issues when it comes to women that they need to address," Wasserman Schultz continued. ...

In spite of--or because of--her off-putting personality and bitter partisan streak, Obama hand-picked her to run the party. The apparent thinking is Democrats need an aggressive attacker with fundraising prowess going into a tough re-election fight where the president is facing declining support among Jewish voters, women and Floridians. ...
