Oh, Awesome: Weinergate Opens NYC Mayor Run for Non-Controversial Alec Baldwin?

The nightmare never ends, right? Anthony Weiner's self-implosion has apparently opened up a gap in the New York mayor Democrat candidacy pool for none other than Alec Baldwin, according to The Daily.

The “30 Rock” star, who has long talked about running for political office, believes Weinergate has shaken up the field of candidates enough that he might have a chance to win, a friend of the actor told The Daily.

“Alec said, ‘Hey, maybe this changes the race. The dynamics have shifted,’ ” said Baldwin’s pal.

Not that that's an airtight source by any stretch of journalism standards, but the article also quotes Baldwin over the years saying he'd be interested in a political run.

Baldwin's past isn't without controversy. It was he of voicemail fame calling his daughter a "pig": "You are a rude, thoughtless little pig. You don't have the brains or the decency as a human being.

"I don't give a damn that you're 12 years old, or 11 years old, or that you're a child, or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the ass who doesn't care about what you do as far as I'm concerned.

"Once again I have made an ass of myself trying to get to a phone. You have humiliated me for the last time with this phone."

Baldwin apolozied and could have rehabilitated himself temper-wise since then, and he certainly has career-wise. But why is it that all these checkered-past people seem to be the only candidates on the ballot?

Regardless, Hollywood will probably continue to get cushy treatment in the Big Apple should Baldwin run and win. A Wall Street Journal article from 2009 talked about how upset Baldwin was that the New York governor was considering ending the filming tax credit given to industries with projects in NYC: "I'm telling you right now," Mr. Baldwin declared, "if these tax breaks are not reinstated into the budget, film production in this town is going to collapse, and television is going to collapse and it's all going to go to California." Well, well. Apparently taxes do matter, at least when it comes to filming "30 Rock" in Manhattan.

But guess what? He wanted Barack Obama to take a harder line on increasing taxes on millionaires. Awesome hypocricy. He's also being investigated for tax evasion, points out IHearttheMedia.

They also had this video of Baldwin on Conan O'Brien talking about stoning a Republican. Even if it's supposed to be funny and a joke, well, uh, it's not.
