Even Democrats have conceded that "extremist political rhetoric" acted as a catalyst in the assassination of legendary conservative activist and Turning Point USA founder, Charlie Kirk, according to an NBC poll

While almost three-quarters of Republicans, 73 percent, say that "extremist political rhetoric," by “some in the media and political leaders,” contributed to Charlie's assassination, 54 percent of Democrats and 53 percent of independents say the same. Combined, 63 percent of all Americans agree that violent political rhetoric from politicians was at fault for the horrific display of political violence.

Twenty-eight percent of those surveyed blamed lone action by a disturbed individual, and four percent said it was a combination of the two factors.

This is the first NBC poll in 15 years, "that there has been cross-partisan agreement that rhetoric played an important role in an attack, as opposed to the incident having been more about the actions of a single disturbed person."

Democrat officials have continued to deflect when asked about whether violent rhetoric caused the murder, and at the same time continued to describe Republicans, conservatives, and Trump administration officials as Nazi's, threats to democracy, and authoritarian.

The alleged assassin, Tyler Robinson, is facing the death penalty in Utah. His family said that he had become more politically extreme in the years before the assassination. Some have hypothesized that his transgender lover, Lance Twiggs, may have had something to do with his radicalization, although that has not been confirmed by law enforcement or the FBI.

Recently, Judge Tony Graff granted Robinson's motion to appear in court in civilian clothing to avoid tainting the jury pool before his trial; however, the motion to appear without restraints was denied. Robinson's next hearing is set for January 16, 2026.
