Wait: Trump Dished Out Money So People Would Cheer For Him?

This is amazing, if true. Donald Trump, who intentionally or not has become the laughingstock of the 2016 election cycle, reportedly recruited, hired, and paid cash-hungry actors to cheer for him at his campaign rollout on Tuesday.

In other words, apparently his team couldn’t find anyone to show up and show their support for free.

The Hill reports:

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump allegedly paid actors to celebrate his formal campaign launch for president earlier this week. The new 2016 contender paid extras $50 to participate in his kickoff Tuesday from New York City’s Trump Tower, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The publication said it had obtained an email sent by New York-based Extra Mile Casting last Friday, calling on performers capable of joining the campaign launch earlier this week. “We are looking to cast people for the event to wear T-shirts and carry signs and help cheer him in support of his announcement,” the June 12 email said.

That’s embarrassing — and hilarious — in part because it’s not as if The Donald doesn’t have supporters. He’s polling unexpectedly well in New Hampshire and of course has a dedicated following. So why on earth would he risk more brutal headlines and negative attention by paying people to pretend they love him?

Perhaps – after building buzz for this event for years — he didn’t want to take any chances. That is, he didn’t want to take the risk of either no one showing up, or speaking in front of a disinterested (and unenthusiastic) audience. Actively recruiting and paying people to hoot and holler solved the issue.

Plus, if he did get caught, he might have reasoned, the ridiculousness of the story would draw lots of media attention, which is what he always desperately craves.

Well done, sir.
