President Trump's distaste for the media was on display again on Monday when he claimed the networks are spending too much time on petty headlines while "underreporting" terror attacks. The White House even took the bold step of publishing a list of attacks they believe the press has largely ignored.
The media is responding. The Daily Mail pointed to a number of attacks included on the list that the editors argue received plenty of coverage, such as the ISIS attack on the Bataclan night club in Paris last November.
CBS news anchor Scott Pelley opened his evening program Monday night with a rather passive aggressive message for Trump.
“President Trump told a U.S. military audience that there have been terrorist attacks that no one knows about because the media chooses not to report them," Pelley said. "It has been a busy day for presidential statements divorced from reality.”
Pelley roped Trump's media claim in with other recent statements the president has made, like his renunciation of the "so called judge" who filed an injunction against his executive order on immigration, and his charge that millions of illegals voted in the 2016 election, costing him the popular vote.
John King, too, felt the need to defend the Fourth Estate against Trump's claims. For the president to accuse the media of not doing its job is a "parallel universe" from a White House that has provided us "alternative facts," he said.
