Obama: I've Spoken 'Directly' to Putin About Our Plan to Respond to Russian Hack

President Obama has vowed to take retaliatory action against Russia for their supposed hacking scheme during the 2016 presidential election.

"I think there is no doubt that when any foreign government tries to impact the integrity of our elections that we need to take action and we will at a time and place of our own choosing," Obama told NPR.

Some of those countermeasures could be financial sanctions or our own form of cyber attack, according to CNN.

Obama said he sent this warning "directly" to Russian President Vladimir Putin. With just a few weeks left of his presidency, however, how much action he can take against Russia before Trump takes over is in serious doubt.

Investigations into the hacking claims have resulted in contradictory conclusions. While the CIA said it has reason to believe the Russian hack was planned to help elect Donald Trump, other intel agencies said they can't corroborate those reports.

As for WikiLeaks' Julian Assange, he told Sean Hannity Thursday night that Russia had nothing to do with the hack.
