New Mel Gibson Film Highlights Heroics of WWII Medic

During the WWII Battle of Okinawa, Dr. Desmond Doss saved over 75 men - and he did it without a weapon. Doss was the only soldier to fight on the front lines in the second World War without a weapon, yet he somehow managed to rescue dozens of men from behind enemy lines under constant ambush. The conscientious objector's heroics eventually earned him the Congressional Medal of Honor. Director Mel Gibson tells his miraculous story in the new film Hacksaw Ridge, starring The Amazing Spiderman's Andrew Garfield.
