Trump Seeks to Erase Evangelical Doubts During Times Square Meeting

Donald Trump’s pronouncement during the Republican primary that he is “great with the evangelicals.” That declaration will be put to the test Tuesday as he and Dr. Ben Carson host a large group of faith leaders from across the country at a closed-door meeting in Times Square.

As you can see, several prominent Christians are expected to attend.

This meeting is a significant one, since Trump has given Christians plenty to be concerned about. His opposition to North Carolina's HB2 bill, which mandates that citizens use the restroom which corresponds to their birth certificates, frustrated conservatives who say the legislation was a common sense effort to protect children. Meanwhile, his biblical gaffes have done little to convince Christians he is well versed in Jesus' teachings.

Moreoever, at the Faith and Freedom Coalition's Road to Majority conference in Washington, D.C. in early June, Trump was well received inside the ballroom, yet faith leaders gathered outside to protest his appearance, arguing that his hateful rhetoric is anything but Christian.

Concerned Women for America President Penny Nance noted on Fox News Tuesday morning that Trump is miles better than Hillary Clinton, but she is looking for the GOP nominee to better address the faith issues important to them.

Pastor Michael Anthony of the company Godfactor will also be attending Tuesday's meeting and will be giving his initial reaction to Townhall. Stay tuned for his remarks.
