DC GOP: Republicans in DC Have Not Had This Much Influence Since Frederick Douglass

Only 27,000 of Washington, D.C. voters are registered Republicans - a total of 6 percent. That means, come Saturday, this small demographic will have a large impact on the presidential race.

“In terms of being a D.C. Republican, we have not mattered this much in a presidential primary since Frederick Douglass was a precinct captain here,” D.C. GOP executive director Patrick Mara said.

It's hard to say who will win D.C.'s vote, since few polls have surfaced from the nation's capital. A small presidential straw poll on March 2 gave Donald Trump the lead with 31 percent.

Yet, if history repeats itself, the most "establishment" candidate is likely to claim victory. Mitt Romney and John McCain both won D.C.'s primary in the past two elections and both went on to become the Republican nominee.

Right now, Marco Rubio is winning the D.C. delegate race, garnering 31. John Kasich comes in second with 24, Trump is third with 22 and Ted Cruz has 18.

Note to D.C. Republicans: Take advantage of this rare opportunity to influence a presidential election!

Update: As the video below shows, D.C. Republicans did not waste the opportunity.
