GOP: Dems Using Benghazi Committee to Help Get Clinton Elected

Democrats on the House Benghazi Committee have often accused Republicans of using the group as a political tool to damage Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy gave them some ammunition to that end over the summer when he noted that Clinton’s poll numbers had dropped after their investigation.

McCarthy’s unfortunate comments were immediately refuted by Benghazi Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy.  The majority of their witnesses, he noted, “have not been named Hillary Clinton.” They don’t want political victories – they wants answers as to why Americans were left to die at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi the night of September 11, 2012.

That, however, doesn’t mean none of the members are using the committee for political means. The committee Democrats’ paltry effort indicates they have other goals in mind than finding answers for the Benghazi victims’ families. As the committee press secretary Matt Wolking notes,

“Committee Democrats have made zero meaningful contributions to the investigation, requesting zero witnesses from the administration and zero documents.”

Moreover, Wolking says that when confronted, committee Democrats did not deny “strategic coordination with the campaign” of their endorsed candidate for president.

Wolking also points out that Hillary Clinton and the DNC have raised campaign cash off of their Benghazi investigation.

Who exactly is using the committee for political ends again?
