Cecile Richards Claims She Faced 'Sexist' Questions at Planned Parenthood Hearing

If you flipped through the news channels Wednesday looking for a recap of the House Oversight Committee hearing on Planned Parenthood, you’d think that GOP congressmen had launched a sexist ambush on CEO Cecile Richards. At least that's what she told MSNBC's Rachel Maddow:

“I do think some of the comments were pretty sexist,” Cecile Richards said in an interview on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” late Tuesday. “But actually I think it was because they didn’t have anything else to talk about.”

Actually, Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) and company had plenty to talk about. Richards’ salary was a minor topic in the larger conversation. The committee focused much more on significant questions like: Why have breast cancer screenings at Planned Parenthood decreased as the number of abortions has risen? Why, if only 3 percent of Planned Parenthood's services are related to abortion, as they claim, do they get so much revenue from the procedure? Why is this an organization that needs federal funding?

Those taxpayer dollars, the panel reasoned, could be allocated to the thousands of women’s health centers that provide health care sans abortions.

Nevertheless, on ABC’s “The View,” the liberal cohosts at the table lasered in on the salary question and suggested the congressmen were out of line.

Raven-Symoné demanded that Rep. Chaffetz should post his salary for all to see because “who knows where that money came from.”

Newsflash: Chaffetz and his colleagues are not the president of an organization that is responsible for the slaughter of 300,000 unborn babies a year.

This statistic, along with the disturbing Center for Medical Progress video investigation, made it near impossible for Richards to try and convince the committee that Planned Parenthood deserves tax dollars.

Planned Parenthood's callous disregard for unborn life is something we should be talking about.
