Undocumented Teen At Center of Controversy Has Abortion

Jane Doe, the pregnant undocumented teenager who requested an abortion, underwent the procedure on Wednesday, her lawyers announced. Doe, who illegally entered the country in September as an unaccompanied minor, discovered she was pregnant while being held in federal custody.

This came just hours after the D.C. Appeals Court reversed a decision that gave her the go-ahead to have an abortion.

In a statement from her guardian, Doe said that she entered the United States to "build a better life" for herself, and that she hopes to one day become a nurse. She said that she never wavered in her desire to get an abortion.

The ACLU and others celebrated the news of Doe's abortion with the #JusticeForJane hashtag on Twitter.
