Joe Scarborough is Leaving the GOP

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough announced on Tuesday on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert that he is leaving the Republican Party. Scarborough had represented Florida in Congress as a Republican from 1995 until 2001, when he resigned to spend more time with his family.

Scarborough is now an independent.

Scarborough has been the host of Morning Joe on MSNBC since 2007, and previously hosted "Scarborough Country," a primetime show on MSNBC. He recently got engaged to his Morning Joe co-host, Mika Brzezinski. The two have been critics of President Trump for the entirety of his presidency and throughout most of the 2016 election, with Scarborough saying that the GOP should drop Trump as their nominee.

Last month, President Donald Trump called Scarborough and Brzezinski "low I.Q. crazy Mika" and "psycho Joe" in a widely-panned tweet.
