Under Armour CEO Apologizes For...Saying Something Nice About Trump

About a week ago, Under Armour's CEO Kevin Plank committed a mortal sin and said that President Donald Trump was a "real asset" for the country. People called for a boycott. Some of the athletes Under Armour sponsors were outraged. In response to all of this, Plank took out a full-page advertisement in The Baltimore Sun to "clarify" and explain his comments. Plank reiterated his opposition to the travel ban and reaffirmed Under Armour's commitment to diversity.

The ad:

While I guess it's nice that he did this, it's still entirely unnecessary because the act of saying something kind about the leader of the country should in no way be a career-ender or trigger calls for boycotts. Take a deep breath, America.

Right now, it seems as though American society is obsessed with finding ways to declare people to be "problematic" and worthy of being shunned. This isn't productive nor should it be encouraged. Donald Trump won the election, and it's perfectly okay to support some of his policies while disagreeing with others. (I know I certainly do.) This "out for blood" approach is only going to continue to divide the country further.
