As the nation is yet again in the middle of a debate over whether an average person should be permitted to carry a firearm, here's a story that's once again making the rounds: back in April, an Uber driver armed (legally) with a concealed firearm stopped what could have easily become a mass murder.
The Chicago Tribune reported that the driver, who is licensed to carry a gun, shot a man who was firing into a crowd of people, and ended the rampage.
A group of people had been walking in front of the driver around 11:50 p.m. Friday in the 2900 block of North Milwaukee Avenue when Everardo Custodio, 22, began firing into the crowd, Quinn said.
The driver pulled out a handgun and fired six shots at Custodio, hitting him several times, according to court records. Responding officers found Custodio lying on the ground, bleeding, Quinn said. No other injuries were reported.
Custodio was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic hospital, where he was treated for gunshot wounds to the shin, thigh and lower back, authorities said.
The Uber driver was not charged as he was acting in the defense of others and possessed the gun legally.
