Students for Life Ad Censored From Hulu

Hulu, the online television streaming service, is supported by ad revenue. After previously posting ads from various Planned Parenthood critics, LifeNews is reporting that they've rejected an ad from Students for Life of America highlighting alternative low-cost medical centers that don't perform abortions.

Students for Life of America informed LifeNews.com today of the censorship. The pro-life organization said a Hulu account executive said “Unfortunately we can’t accept ads that surround issues like this. We’ve run it past our ad standards team and it does not fit with the environment.”

“There are certain types of advertisers we do not accept on Hulu: guns, gambling, marijuana, and pro-life/pro-choice. As mentioned, this is decided on by senior leadership here at Hulu who make the decisions regarding our ad standards,” the Hulu official told SFLA.

But Students for Life president Kristan Hawkins tells LifeNews that Hulu has run at least one commercial from Planned Parenthood (view here), inciting angry responses from viewers. In 2013, the Planned Parenthood abortion company targeted Latinos with Hulu ads.

Apparently, Hulu initially said the ads would be fine, but rejected the final versions. The ads direct viewers to a government website, not one belonging to Students for Life or any other pro-life organization.

“This June, Hulu told us they would run our commercials no problem. But last month, after viewing our final versions, they denied us. They said that Hulu won’t run a pro-life commercial,” she said. “We’ve written back and placed calls trying to get them to hear our side — that these aren’t “pro-life” ads but merely non-controversial PSAs and, since they have run numerous Planned Parenthood commercials and commercials for abortion-causing IUDs and chemical birth control, it’s only fair to run our commercials.”
