The View is where rational thought goes to die. That’s most of liberal television of course, but things gave taken a turn for the worse over at this daytime show. Co-host Joy Behar thinks that the GOP expanded their Senate majority because…of gerrymandering. Yeah, it’s a real brain trust over there. The topic on the minds of liberal America is the border. The migrant caravan has arrived at the southern border, they tried to bum rush the crossing, and the Border Patrol had to deploy tear gas. This apparently was a triggering event for the Left. Some even questioned if we violated the convention on chemical weapons—cough* Sen. Brian Schatz (D-HI) cough*–and no one seems to care that President Obama did the exact same thing at the border. He also used tear gas against migrants, but history did not start for the liberal media until 2016 (via Newsweek) [emphasis mine]:
In a statement sent to Newsweek on Tuesday, the CBP said its personnel have been using tear gas, or 2-chlorobenzylidene malononitrile (CS), since 2010, deploying the substance a total of 126 times since fiscal year 2012.
Under President Donald Trump, CBP's use of the substance has hit a seven-year record high, with the agency deploying the substance a total of 29 times in fiscal year 2018, which ended on September 30, 2018, according to the agency's data.
However, the data also showed that the substance was deployed nearly the same number of times in fiscal years 2012 and 2013 under former President Barack Obama, with CBP using the substance 26 times in fiscal year 2012 and 27 times in fiscal year 2013.
To View co-host Sunny Hostin, she doesn’t care about this, but why now? Well, it’s because a Republican is in the White House, more specifically Trump. Joy Behar was stunned that Obama would do this and asked if Meghan McCain, the show’s right-ish-leaning co-host had any evidence to this effect. Well, it’s stated above, Joy (via Newsbusters):
Citing the National Review, Whoopi began by pointing out that the conservative outlet argued that when President Obama tear-gassed illegal immigrants crossing the border, no one made a fuss like they are doing now in the media. But co-host Joy Behar was reluctant to believe that Obama did such a thing.
“Is there any evidence of that?” she asked before plowing forward to point out the media-hyped image of the mother and her two girls running from tear gas. “Do you have a photo like that when Obama was in office?” she asked.

This really irritated her co-host, Sunny Hostin. “The last I checked President Obama is no longer in office. President Trump is in office!” she exclaimed as the audience clapped.
“And he's destroying the country!” Behar added.

‘And this [B]ut Obama’ defense doesn't work for me...The Trump Administration has secretly continued to separate kids from their families. The Obama administration never did that. The ACLU says that kind of separation is unprecedented. So this whole, but Obama did it, but Obama did it, I don't care what Obama did. I care what Trump is doing right here right now!
Hostin embodies the entire liberal media establishment when it comes their love affair with the former president. They didn’t care when he seized phone records from Associated Press reporters, spied on journalist James Rosen, and committed extrajudicial killings using drone strikes. Obama reportedly had a kill list. I don’t really care about the latter, but can you imagine if The New York Timesreported that George W. Bush had such lists during his presidency; there would have been impeachment calls. Anwar al-Awlaki was a terrorist, yes. He was also an American citizen, who—and this is where I diverge from some conservatives—should have been arrested, tried, and sentenced. Obama killed him with a drone strike while he ate breakfast on the side of the road in Yemen in 2011. I’m not a the fan of the ACLU, but as Americans, you have due process rights no matter how heinous of a human being you are or have become. Sorry, but there was a lot of press freedom, executive overreach, and yes, tear gassing that occupied during Obama’s tenure and no one in the liberal media gave a crap. So, sorry Hostin, it does matter. You’re the ones who made up these rules. We’re just playing by them—and owning you in the process. There is no legitimate moral outrage from the Left here (is there any time really?). This is so horrifically transparent. You people on the Left don’t get to take your heads out of your a**es after eight years of similar instances of border enforcement and get to play the outrage card. Sorry, this is just continuity of government if you want to describe the tear-gassing. You don’t have the moral high ground here to lecture the rest of the country. Maybe that’s why they’re so frustrated. Choke on it, liberals.
