After Orlando, Many in LBGT Community Rush To Buy Guns

In the wake of the horrific Orlando terror attack on gay night club Pulse, the media airwaves have been saturated with calls for gun control.

Last night Senate Democrats held a filibuster (in the Capitol building, which is protected by men and women with guns) to push the issue. Earlier this week Actor George Takei called on the LBGT community to demand gun bans in the aftermath, saying in an op-ed this week, "We might help lead this country towards a collective right to participate and live free of fear and terror, and ultimately toward a common-sense, permanent ban on weapons designed for mass slaughter."

But many in the gay community aren't buying the narrative and gun sales among the group are spiking.

As the report above noted The Pink Pistols, an LBGT gun rights group, has seen it's membership double since the Orlando attack.

“The Pink Pistols gives condolences to all family and friends of those killed and injured at Pulse,” First Speaker of the Pink Pistols Gwendolyn Patton said in a statement earlier this week. “This is exactly the kind of heinous act that justifies our existence. At such a time of tragedy, let us not reach for the low-hanging fruit of blaming the killer’s guns. Let us stay focused on the fact that someone hated gay people so much they were ready to kill or injure so many. A human being did this. The human being’s tools are unimportant when compared to the bleakness of that person’s soul. I say again, GUNS did not do this. A human being did this, a dead human being. Our job now is not to demonize the man’s tools, but to condemn his acts and work to prevent such acts in the future.”
