Shocking: Parents Don't Want Their Kids Going Into Politics

Why am I not surprised? In a poll released Friday, 64 percent of respondents said they wouldn’t want their kids going into politics as a career. Just 31 percent said they would like their children to look into politics as a potential future career.

This may seem shocking to some, but in fact, Gallup has been asking this question since the 1940s and the majority of people have always said they wouldn’t want their kids in politics. Perhaps this could have something to do with the lack of confidence in Congress’ ability to do their job.

Another Gallup poll last month found that only 10 percent of Americans have confidence in Congress. Additionally, we know that only 9 percent of Americans approve of the job they are doing.

Perhaps if we can get Congress to do their job and end some of the gridlock in Washington Americans can get excited about having their kids interested in politics. Maybe I am a little biased, but it seems like a political career could be one to admire. But until we clean up the mess that is going on in Washington right now, we probably won’t be seeing parents changing their minds any time soon.
