Ryan: The News 'Misinterpreted' Trump's Feeling Toward House Health Care Bill

House Speaker Paul Ryan is expected to give a speech on tax reform Tuesday. Judging by his eager tone on Fox News’s "America’s Newsroom," he is over the moon about it. As Bill Hemmer noted, it is Ryan’s “crown jewel.” It’s "the reason he’s in Congress.”

Ryan told Hemmer that included in Congress’s tax plan is regulatory relief which he says is “well on its way,” and tax reform. Combined, these factors will result in higher take-home pay and more jobs, he said.

Ryan also weighed in on the American Health Care Act’s status in the Senate.

The speaker acknowledged that the Senate version will be different than the House because it’s going to be a “vote-a-rama” of amendments. Yet, he’s “pleased” they’re moving forward.

Asked about reports that suggested President Trump called the House version of AHCA “mean,” Ryan pushed back, suggesting it was more fake news.

“I don’t think that accurately reflects” his feelings about the law,” Ryan noted. It was a ‘misinterpretation’ of a private meeting.

“He’s excited,” Ryan said. “He ‘s on board.”

Again, he reassured Americans that although the Senate will change the bill, the GOP-led Congress is determined to repeal and replace a law that’s “collapsing.”

Meanwhile, Democrats are balking that the GOP is holding its health care meetings in secret, even hosting an all-night talk-a-thon to protest the process.
