Actor Mark Ruffalo: It’s ‘Common Sense’ to Support Abortion Rights

Actor Mark Ruffalo, known for playing the Hulk in the popular Avengers films, has not been silent on one of our country’s most controversial issues. Unfortunately, like so many of his peers in Hollywood, he’s picked the wrong side of the abortion debate.

In August, Ruffalo wrote a column defending his mother’s decision as a young woman to illegally abort what would have been his brother or sister:

My own mother fought to make herself more than a possession; she lived her life as a mother who chose when she would have children, and a wife who could earn a living if she so chose. I want my daughters to enjoy that same choice.

He went on to say making abortion legal was “progress” for our country - putting it on the same par as ending institutional racism.

Now, in a 2-minute video called, “We Won’t Go Back,” produced for the pro-abortion Center for Reproductive Rights, Ruffalo is defending the pro-choice movement by once again citing his mother’s abortion and insisting we shouldn’t “go back 30 years:”

“I can’t stand aside with two beautiful young girls of my own and accept that we’re gonna return to those days. It’s become a moral issue about who you are and how you view women in your life. There’s a common sense and a wisdom and a decency that needs to be upheld and doesn’t warrant being pushed back 30 years.”

The actual “common sense” here, I would argue, is that with two precious daughters of his own, Mr. Ruffalo should see the miracle and beauty of every human life. It’s a tragedy the actor doesn’t see this same beauty in the sibling he could have had were his mother to choose life.

Update: LifeNews points out that Ruffalo also recently defended legalized abortion in a Twitter debate. His argument, the pro-life publication reports, didn't progress beyond the idea that the procedure should be legal because we can’t yet address issues of poverty or homelessness for children.
