Not a single individual crossing into the United States illegally has been released into the country in 16 months, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

The department also noted that apprehensions by U.S. Border Patrol were five percent lower compared with July, and 94 percent less than the “monthly average” of apprehensions at the border during the Biden years, the press release explained regarding August numbers.

“Sixteen straight months of zero releases at the border proves that President Trump’s policies are working,” DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said in a statement.

“Catch and release is over, consequences are back, and illegal crossings have fallen to historic lows. President Trump made a promise to the American people that he would make America safe again, and he has done just that by giving us the most secure border in American history,” Mullin continued.

DHS also said that “drug seizures” are also significantly higher compared with the last administration, and that nearly 800 pounds of fentanyl was confiscated at the border last month.

National Border Patrol Council President Paul Perez explained to Townhall last week that there is still more work to be done to codify the changes made by President Donald Trump at the border.

“The criminal cartels are gonna exploit everything they can. They're gonna look for every loophole,” Perez said.

“They're gonna look for every opportunity because money is the only thing they care about. They don't care about their human cargo. They don't care about anything other than making money,” he continued, adding that the cartels are coming after each other.

“So the drone and counter drone technology that we have in the United States is something that we have been utilizing to make sure that we can protect our communities, protect our law enforcement and military that's on the border,” Perez said. “But it's an evolving technology, we're getting a lot more technology with the funding from the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill,’ so we're able to counter anything that the cartels throw our way.”

Beyond the border, nearly 51,000 illegal aliens were arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in August, DHS revealed earlier this month.
