CAIRO — Hundreds are rallying in Cairo’s landmark Tahrir Square that was the epicenter of the uprising that toppled Hosni Mubarak, demanding speedy trials for former regime figures and policemen accused of killing protesters during the 18-day revolt earlier this year.

The rally is dubbed “Friday of Retribution” to reflect what protesters perceive as a slow pace of trials of former officials, nearly five months after Mubarak’s Feb. 11 ouster.

The discontent sparked two days of fierce clashes between thousands of frustrated youth and anti-riot police this week on the streets of the Egyptian capital, with more than 1,000 injured.
