Support among Republicans for former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) has tumbled in recent weeks, according to a new poll Wednesday.

Thirty-two percent of likely Republican primary voters have a favorable opinion of Gingrich, compared to 34 percent who view him unfavorably, according to a new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll. That's a fall from the 32-13 percent favorable rating he faced in April.

The drop for Gingrich follows a series of gaffes he made in late May that tripped up his campaign just days after its formal launch. It also follows the mass resignations last week by senior advisers over a disagreement between them and Gingrich over how to prosecute the campaign.
