Secure The Border: Democrats In Their Own Words

"We simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States undetected, undocumented, unchecked, and circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently, diligently, and lawfully to become immigrants in this country."1

"We’ve got to get tough on the border. There’s no question the border is a sieve."5

"All Americans, not only in the states most heavily affected, but in every place in this country are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country. The jobs they hold might otherwise be held by citizens or legal immigrants. The public service they use impose burdens on our taxpayers."4

"Illegal immigration is wrong, plain and simple.  Until the American people are convinced that we will stop future flows of illegal immigration, we will make no progress on dealing with the millions of illegal immigrants who are here now and on rationalizing our system of legal immigration. It’s plain and simple, and unavoidable."2

"Above all else, the American people want their government to be serious about protecting the public, enforcing the rule of law and creating a rational system of legal immigration that will proactively meet our needs rather than reactively responding to future waves of illegal immigration. People who enter the United States without our permission are illegal aliens and illegal aliens should not be treated the same as people who entered the U.S. legally."2

"When it comes to minors crossing the border,] we have to send a clear message to that just because your child gets across the border, that doesn’t mean the child gets to stay. We don’t want to send a message that is contrary to our laws or that will encourage more children to make that dangerous journey." 3

DEMOCRATS

"Even as we are a nation of immigrants, we’re also a nation of laws."1

"To the advocates for strong, fair, effective comprehensive immigration reform, and I’m certainly one, I say to you that the American people will never accept immigration reform unless they truly believe that their government is committed to ending future illegal immigration and any successful comprehensive immigration reform bill must recognize this fact."2

"[America must] try to do more to speed the deportation of illegal aliens who are arrested for crimes and to better identify illegal aliens in the workplace. We are a nation of immigrants, but we are also a nation of laws. It is wrong and ultimately self-defeating for a nation of immigrants to permit the kind of abuse of our immigration laws we have seen in recent years and we must do more to stop it."4

Final Thoughts

Border security is not a partisan issue.  Border security is national security and it’s long past due for the career politicians to solve this issue once and for all.   President Trump’s proposed ‘big, beautiful wall with a big, beautiful door’ is not racist or xenophobic; it’s common sense policy that Democrats have agreed with for decades.

The House of Representatives did their part by passing a Continuing Resolution that provides the $5 billion in border wall funding requested by President Trump. Now it’s time for Mitch McConnell and the Republicans in the U.S. Senate to do their part. The American people want a border wall. Grassroots Republicans want a border wall. Your president wants a border wall. Do your job, Mitch—secure the border now.
