The Lucky Sperm Syndrome

The premiere of the third season of the HBO show “Succession,” which you can’t read about without some mention of it being “loosely based” on the Fox News founder, was last Sunday. It’s the story of Logan Roy, his children, and the family media business. As a show, it’s fine and I enjoy it. But as honest commentary or even interesting satire, it’s terrible because the leftists who make it can’t get over their Fox Derangement Syndrome.

The show can’t decide if it’s a comedy or a drama, which is very similar to real life. But this comes from Adam McKay and Will Farrell, who executive produce the show, so they can’t help but hammer in left-wing stereotypes of what they think conservatives are like, to the point of distraction, likely because they don’t know any in real life.

Similarly, leftists do the exact same thing to the real Rupert Murdoch and his empire. Watch any 20 minutes of CNN and you’re likely to see 15 minutes of Fox News clips with liberals complaining about it in the other 5 minutes. MSNBC might have a 14 to 6 ratio. They really are that pathetic.

Having written about the Murdoch family on occasion before, I expected better from HBO. Frankly, there’s fertile ground there for satire in the real thing, just not where any leftist would look.

Missing from the Roy family is a James Murdoch – an ungrateful, entitled “progressive” who is seemingly so consumed with jealousy that he takes every opportunity to strike out at the things most important to his father. James does just that, with daddy’s money, naturally.

James and his wife Kathryn use the money James got from being Rupert’s kid to fund whatever left-wing cause that tickles their fancy. That’s what happens when you have more money than you know what to do with and you didn’t really work hard or risk anything to earn it. Call it the “Lucky Sperm Syndrome.”

LSS afflicts people who hit the jackpot at birth, by birth, and have been ungrateful about it ever since. James and Kathryn spend their time and money trying to make it up to progressives that their last name is Murdoch. It’s kind of surprising he didn’t take her name, honestly.

The concept of LSS fascinates me. I’m proud of my family, and we didn’t have anything.

I can’t imagine being born on third base and spending my life wishing I’d been pinch run for.

The latest swipe James is taking in a long line of daddy issues is “investing” some of his dirty Fox News money in a new venture with the Associated Press. If you’re asking yourself what those words mean, because they don’t really make a lot of sense on their own, you’re not alone.

Axios reported, “James and Kathryn Murdoch are nearing a deal to make a multi-million dollar investment to support the formation of a new climate reporting hub at the Associated Press.” Why is the AP seeking investments for a “climate hub” and what the hell is a climate hub?

The lesser Murdochs, being rabid leftists, and the AP being the AP, you can assume this means it will be a clearinghouse for liberal spin masquerading as news on “climate change.” Axios reports their cash will join more usual suspects of left-wing funding, “The outlet is already working with several foundations, including the Rockefeller Foundation, Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) and Walton Family Foundation, to fund climate and environment coverage.”

Just as an aside, why the hell is the Associated Press getting in bed with a rich liberal couple on an issue they’re known for advocating on? I know the AP pretends to be non-partisan, or at least used to, but James and Kathryn Murdoch are fast becoming a lower profile but richer Harry and Meghan – all of the whiny liberalism, none of the royal baggage. That lack of royalty allows them to fly under the radar a bit, but doesn’t the AP care about what’s left of its reputation and credibility? James oversaw the scandal in the UK at The Sun where they’d been illegally wiretapping celebrities. Does the AP not follow the news? What’s next? Partnering with George Soros to create a “World Socialism Center”?

Also reported by Axios, James and Kathryn donated $5 million to a “charity” that, among other things, shovels money to The Bulwark. Giving money to Bill Kristol’s latest money-losing venture is perfect, considering how Billy is another person afflicted with LSS. Only if Ronald McDonald were real and had a child could someone dine out on their family name more than James Murdoch and Bill Kristol have.

Succession is worth watching, and entertaining, if you don’t know the story of the story behind what allegedly inspired it and the liberals making it want to skewer. The Murdoch family has its dysfunctional members, as any family does, it’s just that theirs happens to be the one member of the family Hollywood leftists actually like. It’s a huge missed opportunity, from an entertainment perspective. From a truth perspective, well, you don’t turn to liberals or lucky sperms for the truth.
