Blue-anon – MSNBC

  • Now, understand how difficult it is to stand out at the "Hysteria Network."

By now it is a guaranteed practice at MSNBC for at least one of the on-air wizards to declare all of the nightmarish things that are promised to take place if/when Donald Trump is reelected. Nicolle Wallace is assured of some manner of doom throughout the week, and on the daybreak psych ward known as "Morning Joe," it is a quotidian reality we will hear some manner of doom from the panel.

As such, you have to appreciate the challenge faced by Rachel Maddow, as she not only needs to distinguish herself among the harridans but has been reduced to once-a-week appearances. So those need to count in order to be recognized.

As a result, we get this maniacal rant from Maddow about all of the things Trump is assured to enforce against HER.

It was just yesterday when I delivered a list of numerous media names who have delivered these dark promises, and now Maddow takes it to a new, lower level. As she intones all of the issues she sees on the "ultra-right" (there is no such thing as just normal, right of center in her world, for the record), there is a dawning you'll have by playing a brief mind game: Imagine for a moment that she is instead talking about her network and the voices seen therein, and you'll see that everything she is saying is completely spot-on accurate.

Low-Octane Gaslighting – MSNBC

  • The amusement is that she actually said that.

Unrelated, Maddow was interviewed by Oliver Darcy for his CNN newsletter, "Reliable Sources," and there was this amusing dose of a lack of perspective. In discussing various topics, Darcy dropped a question about people who allegedly watch Fox for a conservative perspective and Maddow's network for the opposite polarity. Her denial is precious, and her answer is unintentionally accurate and amusing.

DARCY: Often, MSNBC is compared to Fox News. People say they watch Fox for the "conservative" perspective and MSNBC for the "liberal" perspective. It's obviously a flawed argument, given that Rupert Murdoch's channel operates with no regard for basic truth. But you must hear this argument made. How do you respond to it.

MADDOW: I’m hoping our work speaks for itself.

Reporting on the Mirror – ASSOCIATED PRESS / CNN

  • When two diminishing outlets join forces, how many will notice?

I had an interesting catch recently sent to me by Andrew Malcolm. It appears that the Associated Press – the largest press syndicator going – is asking readers to pony up with donations for the content. This surely has to be a bit of fallout from the announcement that two major news companies have cut ties with the AP recently – Gannett and McClatchy News Services.

And now comes the announcement that CNN is entering into a partnership with the diminished news source after CNN walked away from using the AP some 14 years ago. But this is not entirely considered good news. Inside CNN, the feeling is that the network resorting to the AP feeds for its online news presence will mean there will be job cuts on the horizon in the digital division of CNN.

Artisanally Crafted Narratives – ROLLING STONE

The Justice Samuel Alito dogpile continues, this time Rolling Stone coming out with a massive EXCLUSIVE it claims to…it claims will…well, we are not really sure. The site is selling this as some kind of controversy, except the content is not all that controversial, at all. Still, the site that is still attempting to become a legitimate news source dedicated 2,000+ words to claim that there is damning proof that Alito…said something that is damning.

The recording was made by Lauren Windsor, and in it, you hear – mostly her speaking. Basically, it is a recorded conversation at a D.C. event, and Windsor spends much of the recording setting up premises and asking Alito to comment on those. As a result, people are attributing all manner of outrage about things he never manages to say on these recordings, but much like the recent flag controversies about the judge, it is all baseless accusations leading to accusatory charges which alone are meant to be enough for him to step aside from the Court.

Presentation Paradox – CBS NEWS

  • "It's like these people are not thinking as they are told!"

One of the big tells of bias in the press is when there is a surprised reaction to public polling. Instead of a sober presentation of the results, when you hear some manner of confusion over the results, it lets us know they were anticipating a different result.

Margaret Brennan this weekend looked at a poll conducted by her network where a "surprising" number of respondents showed they were in favor of deporting illegal immigrants. There was no nuance or specifics, it was all illegals should be deported, and a two-to-one majority favored this. Brennan was clearly flustered by this result, and when untrucking details like legalities and who would be permitted to deport, she tipped her hand that she saw a problem with this return. The fact was the poll reflected that the messaging on the campaign trail of booting out illegals has traction with Americans, and the pundit was put off balance by this.
