This week's Bible study is adapted from The Gospel Project curriculum.
Bible Passages: Genesis 1:1-5; 1:26-2:3; 2:18-25
Discussion Questions: When it comes to the creation of man in Genesis, what does God say? What is different about how God decides to create man from the way He created everything else? How have you seen God breathing life into His creation in the past week?
Food for Thought:
Knowing God is the highest joy and satisfaction that any human can experience. It is the very thing we were created to experience. He commands us to do everything we do for His glory (1 Corinthians 10:31). But the good news is that when we glorify God, we find our greatest satisfaction and a sense of purpose because that is precisely what we were created to do.
How should this truth affect the way we live?
There are billions of people in the world who have never experienced the joy of doing what they were created to do. They are like birds that have never felt the freedom of flight. They are sitting next to you at your workplace, mowing the lawn next to yours and sharing the city that you live in. They are lost and looking for something to save them or have already settled on being their own savior. Our hearts ought to feel compassion for those around us. It wasn't too long ago that we were in the same boat.
But if it is true that our God is real and wants to be known, if it is true that He is both all-powerful and intimately tender with His people, if He is worthy of all our praise and He is the One we most want to give our praise to -- then we should want to be on mission with Him doing the things He is doing.
Recommended
God is on the move, breathing life into His creation once again by calling people to salvation -- and this time we are invited to come along. The question is: Will we follow?
The Gospel Project
The Gospel Project is a Christ-centered curriculum that examines the grand narrative of Scripture and how the Gospel transforms the lives of those it touches. Through a three-year study plan, participants are immersed in the Gospel through stories, theological concepts and calls to missions from Genesis to Revelation. Separate study plans for kids and students/adults ensure the proper focus and depth. The Gospel Project is designed to unify an entire church under a single Christ-centered curriculum. More information, free samples and The Gospel Project blog can be found at The Gospel Project.
