As Christine reported Wednesday, President Trump agreed to not withdraw the United States from NAFTA, but rather to renegotiate the terms of the free trade agreement. Thursday morning he explained on Twitter why his position had changed and what the new conditions would be.
“I received calls from the President of Mexico and the Prime Minister of Canada asking to renegotiate NAFTA rather than terminate. I agreed…subject to the fact that if we do not reach a fair deal for all, we will then terminate NAFTA. Relationships are good-deal very possible!” he wrote.

President Trump also weighed in on the threat of a government shutdown.
“The Democrats want to shut government if we don't bail out Puerto Rico and give billions to their insurance companies for OCare failure. NO!” he tweeted.

The government will shut down at midnight on Friday if a spending bill is not passed. Congressional Republicans introduced legislation Wednesday to keep the government running through May 5 to give lawmakers more time to reach a long-term spending deal.
