Silent Claire: Another Missouri Company Doles Out Bonuses To Workers, No Comment From McCaskill

Some Missouri workers got some more good news, thanks to the GOP tax bill that was signed into law on December 22. More bonuses were awarded. It should be a good thing. It’s certainly something that a politician who voted for the legislation could tout back home. Yet, for Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO), she’s decided to remain silent. She has to; she voted against the bill.

Last week, Great Southern Bancorp, Inc., a bank based in Springfield, announced that full-time and part-time workers would be receiving $1,000 and $500 bonuses respectively. I’m sure this was welcome news to the bank’s 1,200 employees. Claire decided not to comment. Now, Mid-AM Metal Forming is giving bonuses to its workers (via OzarkFirst):

"Mid-AM Metal Forming is excited about the positive implications the tax reform package will have both on the manufacturing industry and its employees," President Steve Johnson said in a news release. "We have very dedicated employees that assist in making us a success.  We are excited to surprise all of them with this reward.”

The amount of money is unclear, but what is gin clear is that McCaskill has gone into the bunker again. She has not commented on this welcome news being bestowed upon her constituents. With 2018 re-election gearing up, she’s trailing her Republican opponent, attorney general Josh Hawley, 49-45 in a very early poll. She was able to navigate her way to another term in 2012, despite representing a red state, thanks to Todd Akin’s legitimate rape gaffe. She won’t be as lucky this year—and voting against a tax bill that will become more popular and benefits working class families is not the best start to a re-elect bid.
