Catastrophe: The Day D.C. Metro Became An Amusement Park Attraction

Everyone in the D.C.-area was tweeting it. I’m sure they had a good laugh, followed by bouts of anger and frustration. The D.C. Metro system has once again shown itself to be the absolute worst, with flooding of the Cleveland Park station becoming so bad that it resembled a log flume ride at your local amusement park. It was a total disaster.

To make matters worse, the rail car that inspects the tracks of the public rail system broke down. This inevitably caused delays (via NBC Washington):

Metro's expensive track vehicle that checks the rail system for flaws broke down last week, causing delays.

It happened Friday morning near the Virginia Square Metro station on the Orange and Silver lines. Delays of up to 30 minutes were reported as trains had to single track around the broken down piece of equipment.

Eventually, the track geometry vehicle was pushed or pulled by another vehicle and cleared off the mainline tracks.

That’s just the icing on top of this cake. What a nightmare, and it’s only going to get worse for commuters in the D.C.-area for the rest of the year.
