ICYMI: LeBron James Praises Jesus Christ After Cavs Loss to Pelicans

After a loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday, Cleveland Cavaliers’ Lebron James was asked whether he thought the return of injured guards Iman Shumpert and Kyrie Irving would help the team’s problems.

Much to the delight of Christian fans, James’ response exalted Jesus Christ.

“I hope we don't think that way. It's never that way,” he said. “When you get your guys back, you prepare just as you prepare before. There’s only one guy ever in the world that everything will be all right when He comes back and that’s Jesus Christ. Other than that, you can’t bank on nobody being OK.”

While James is less outspoken about his faith than other sports figures, he’s made public appearances in church and even stopped by a church’s charity basketball game in a city just outside of Cleveland.

He’s also dismissed comparisons of his abilities on the court to God, saying, “I’m nowhere near close.” When he has accepted compliments about his skills, however, he gave credit not to himself or his training, but to “the grace of God above, He gave me this athleticism.”
