During the White House briefing Monday, Press Secretary Josh Earnest was asked how President Obama believes history will view Cuban Dictator Fidel Castro. Castro died late last week and is infamous for the torture and brutal oppression of the Cuban people.
"He was a towering figure who had a profound impact on the history of not just his country but the western hemisphere. There certainly is no whitewashing the kinds of activities that he ordered and that his government presided over that go against the very values that this country, that our country, has long defended," Earnest said.
Here are a few examples of the "activities" Castro ordered, which include torture and execution by firing squad.
Why Miami celebrating? Ppl like my friend, Claudia Puig. Her dad killed by a Castro firing squad. Her uncle was a political prisoner 25 yrs.

Fidel is dead. I celebrate for my friends who lost their dad to his firing squads, for those jailed, beaten, oppressed by him. For Cuba.

The glamorization of Fidel Castro today is disturbing, if you love life, freedom and liberty you are appalled. pic.twitter.com/MkJNbDlDBh
