Democrat Running For Senate in a Farm State: Who Wants a Farmer Running a Committee?

Democrat and trial attorney Bruce Braley wants to be a Senator from Iowa. If elected, he would join Iowa Republican Senator Chuck Grassley as a colleague. Farming, among other things, is a deeply embedded part of Iowa's culture. Yesterday, the video below was released of Braley speaking to a group of supporters back in January:

"Put this in stark contrast, if you help me win this race, you may have someone with your background, your experience, your voice, some who has literally been fighting TORT reform for thirty years in a visible and public way on the Senate Judiciary Committee or you might have a farmer from Iowa who never went to law school, never practiced law, serving as the next Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Because if Democrats lose the majority, Chuck Grassley will be the next chair of the Judiciary Committee."

I'm not sure what's worse, Braley's "gaffe" or his condescending, elitist attitude toward people who get their hands dirty (literally) for a living.

Editor's note: A previous version of this post stated Braley would face Senator Grassley in his race, that is incorrect. Braley is running to fill the seat of Democratic Senator Tom Harkin, who announced his retirement last month.
