To "Drain the Swamp," Donald Trump Will Push for Term Limits in Congress

In an effort to "drain the swamp" that is Washington, D.C., Republican nominee Donald Trump said he would push for congressional term limits if he’s elected president.

“If I'm elected president, I will push for a constitutional amendment to impose term limits on all members of Congress,” Trump said Tuesday during an afternoon rally in Colorado. “They've been talking about that for years. Decades of failure in Washington and decades of special interest dealing must and will come to an end.”

"We have to break the cycle of corruption, and we have to give new voices a chance to go into government service," Trump's campaign said in a press release. "The time for Congressional term limits has arrived.”

Congressional Republicans proposed the idea in 1994, which included a measure that would have imposed a maximum term of 12 years for both senators and members of the House. The measure did not win two thirds of both the House and Senate required for passage.
