J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series, issued what some are calling a "slam" to accusations that GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump is similar to her character Lord Voldemort. The comparison began after Trump proposed banning Muslims from entering the United States.
Here's what Rowling had to say about the comparison:

In the book series, Voldemort and his followers, called Death Eaters, attempted to rid the Wizarding World of witches and wizards who were born from non-magical parentage. He wanted to achieve immortality, rule the world, and exert his dominance over non-magical people. He was defeated in the seventh book of the series after the Battle of Hogwarts.
Trump currently leads national polls for the GOP nomination, although has fallen in recent polls on the state level.
Not to be a complete and total Harry Potter nerd (or to defend Trump), but is it really fair to say that Trump is worse than a character who had a substantial body count that nearly included an infant?
To the best of my knowledge, Trump hasn't killed anybody, nor has any of his followers. While he's proposed some things that sound eerily similar to the policies of Lord Voldemort, he currently has no way of turning these proposals into reality-plus, even if he were elected president, he is still bound to Congress, the Constitution, and the Supreme Court, something Voldemort did not have to deal with during his reign of terror over the Wizarding World.

Although, the fact that Trump is an actual person instead of a fictional character may tip the scales of "badness" in his favor--at least in J.K. Rowling's mind.
