Christina Hoff Sommers Highlights Examples of "Real" Oppressed Women--And It's Not College Students

Between the UVA rape hoax and Columbia University student Emma Sulkowicz's performance art piece with her mattress, there's been much talk about the supposed "oppressed" state of American women, particularly college students. AEI Scholar Christina Hoff Sommers thinks these girls need a reality check, and takes them to task about what "real" oppression looks like.

This was certainly an eye-opening video, and it's appalling that conditions in the United States are deemed to be on an equitable level with a country like Somalia, where women are subjected to horrific practices and have far fewer rights. Comparatively, life in the United States is a cakewalk. Rather than complain about the "horrors" of microaggressions and supposed slights, (and giving awards to puppets) feminists in the United States, especially on college campuses, should focus on the making sure that their sisters abroad have access to the same rights they have here.
